Not sure if it's okay to talk tech or not, but I just thought of another thing that can cause stiff shifting and hard to find neautral.
Over filling the primary can cause this.
If it calls for 26 oz - use 26 oz (some softails), don't just throw a quart in there because it is easier.
Over filling is not good.
.
You are absolutely correct about the over filling, BUT you dont just dump in a measured amount of fliud either.
With the bike upright, meaning verticle and level, meaning horizontal you fill the primary to the BOTTOM edge of the clutch SPRING!

Excellent point. Needs to be confrirmed using the method you stated.
But the "called for" amount often gets it close to there. Not always, and should be confirmed.
horizontal
Worth mentioning again. Sometimes your jack (if not centered) will have your front wheel higher than the rear. I almost got fooled by that recently.

lot of pissin going on about a clunk that if it was a bad thing Harley would of fixed from the git go,all i say is if ya dont like the clunk buy a metric for crip sake.hel nxt it will be how to get ried of the rocker noise on a shovel.......Start the bike in gear if ya dont like the clunk(for non kickers of course)........
Yeah, Harley fixes everything from the git go,...... (like when they had that crank run-out issue).
Well lets see, oh yeah thats right they did fix it as soon as they verified there WAS a problem. I have one of those bikes .059" runout checked friday afternoon had a new motor monday morning.
As soon as they figured out what WAS causing the problem it was taken care of.
When there is NO PRBLEM they dont fix it, kinda like the trans clunk that IS NOT a problem and the stock comp that IS NOT a problem or the 5th gear whine that IS NOT a problem. NONE of these has ever failed, just caused whining owners!
