The fluid you use as well as atf won't stick the plates, aid better seperaton of the discs. Hard clunking and stiff shifting with a clunk can be eliminated almost totally with the right chain tension,(not possible with the HD ratchet) clutch adjustment and the correct fluid for a wet clutch.

Thanks for posting a informational remedy in a positive manner. As an owner that has an Ultra with a more than just a 'clunk' when shifting into first gear, I'll take a good look at any real answers to resolve, or at least minimize, this issue.

And I have to agree that everytime it 'BANGS' into gear can't really be that good for all those metal parts over the long haul, even though plenty here seem to like hearing it. For me, it doesn't take a loud 'clunk' to let me and my passenger know I'm in gear. If the motors running and on the bike, my passenger should be ready...

Two conflicting answers - one way to find out.

Try it yourself, then tell us what you think. Not a large expense.
Save your old one, if you have doubts.

Most of the opinions you will get here, are from those that have never tried it. So basically you are wasting your time asking.

Try one and see for yourself.

Faast Ed, just from the fact that you make an average 13.5 posts per DAY on here leads me to believe you don't ride your bike enuff to wear any bearings out. I have never owned a garage queen, I buy them to ride. maybe you...no you did misunderstand my first post. I was not saying you were trying to tighten the chain, I was giving you the reason for the clunk, and the effect of fugging with it.

Basically your parts guy is an idiot, stating it will keep the chain too tight. Let's face it, they can't even figure out how the HD stuff works let alone how aftermarket products work.

Pull your panties out of your *** and freakin' chill out. For a guy who quit a thread, you sure had a lot more to say.

Get rid of the clunk, get rid of the vibration, get an easier pulling clutch, get gauges that don't fog, and whatever else. GO BUY A F'n HONDA.

I bought what I wanted, and DON'T WANT TO CHANGE WHAT MAKES A HARLEY A HARLEY!

+

I live near Chicago and it is winter time. The ground is covered in snow and the streets are covered in salt.
So Excuuuuuuze Me if I ain't out riding!!!!!!!!
What the *** does post count have to do with anything?
Cuz I post a lot I must be wrong????? Where's the logic dude?

I don't have a garage queen and you can shove your insults up your butt.
I rode over a thou to Sturgis (one way) and toured everyday up there.
I do 150 - 300 every sunny Saturday.

Throwing insults ain't gonna make your statements any more accurate.

I was not saying you were trying to tighten the chain, I was giving you the reason for the clunk, and the effect of fugging with it.
Up here we call that "back peddling".

You indeed said I was tightening up my chain too tight and because of that you were going to "come clunking right past me on the side of the road" because of my too-tight chain.

Get rid of the clunk, get rid of the vibration, get an easier pulling clutch, get gages that don't fog, and whatever else. GO BUY A F'n HONDA.

I bought what I wanted, and DON'T WANT TO CHANGE WHAT MAKES A HARLEY A HARLEY!
Translation: I can't afford to fix it right, so I use the excuse "Harley supposed to do dat". He he!

For you boys that keep telling me to chill - I'm just responding to YOUR angered posts.
Me don't need chillin' cus this here is pleasure for me to watch you get excited like this! Callin' me names and such. WTF Who needs to chill? Look in the mirror dudes!
