On my 08 Deluxe I have SE slip ons and want toput the SE stage 1 breather on. I know I need a remap so I was going to get the $150 down load from the HD dealer and was wondering if I could run the bike about 50 miles without the remapping? Could I modify the intake with some foam to get it closer to stock for the short run?
There are so many options to consider, as usual! Sticking to the original question, air cleaners, I was really surprised when I recently replaced my stock a/c. I had heard the airflow was restricted but I had no idea how small the actual intake area was around the perimeter on the stock unit.
I replaced mine with the Performance Machine Super Gas air cleaner. It has a filter made by K&N. It's an aluminum billet venturi-style unit so I get air to the intake from the perimeter of the a/c, but also from the center of the a/c.
Roland Sands markets essentially the same unit. Prices vary (I got mine at Bike Week on special for $289) which included everything you see at the link below for the Universal a/c unit.
I've always done the tuner route of some kind (fuel paks didn't work for me) and have had good luck with all of them. (SERT, power commander, TTS)
The current ride has the download. It is more mods than what you are considering, the map is working fine so far...but I've been riding in the 25 to 45 degree range..my experience may change when it finally warms up around here!
