Default Told ya it was coming...07 SG review for first 150 miles

I just got back from a 150 mile pick up and ride of a new 07 SG.

I wish I could fill this page with OMG its freaking sooooo great... but alas thats been done. Plus it's only been 150 miles ya know.

First off I'll answer what most people are probably wondering. The engine. Yes it has more guts than any broken in stock 06 SG's I rode.
Loads a torque for a bike this big. An improvement over last years.
There is little or no valve noise, maybe cause it's new who knows, but its very noticable. The 88's were kinda noisy if you ask me.
The primary gearing is very noticable. The added torque and lower gearing makes this bike very quick (harley quick) off the line.
I would not put this bike up against a built 95 or 98. Were not talking apples to apples in that case ya know. But if you did, it wouldn't be far behind. It's not slow if thats what you're thinking about the 07's.
This platform will be a great start for 103's and 110's etc. in the future. Can't wait for people to get into that and give us some feedback.

Here's some stuff I've not heard in these reviews.

The 4 inch windshield is usless at high speed for someone 5'9". It puts wind directly in my face. It's not all bad and I'd kinda like it if it were not 100 degrees out. Like driving through and oven. Regardless I will probably buy a 6 or 8 for any long distance. Who knows I might get used to it.
Since the wind is in my face I can't hear jack out of the stereo. Again a new windshield and hogtunes should fix this.
Yes the front brakes squeal a little, but I don't find it a problem just yet. Maybe later and even then I know what to do to fix it.
Yes the 6 speed is freaking awesome but a little noisy. Funny thing is, if you pull up into 6 you're basically braking the law (speeding) as it is useless below say 70. But man it shifts so nice and finding neutral was not a problem. A major major improvement over the notchy 5's I've been riding for years. Almost feels dare I say "Metric"? I did NOT find myself looking for another gear. And that is a FIRST in I don't know how many years of riding....
The exhaust just suxs. I talked to the dealer beforehand and he'll continue to warranty the engine with any exhaust I buy even if it's aftermarket.

First impression is great. But I will say this. If you have a built 06. Don't waste your time going for an 07. The improvements are noticable, but not enough to take a 4-6 grand loss on an 06.....

As far as pics.... It's a black 07 SG with bugs all over it. I think we all know what that looks like.

If you ask nicely at the parts and accessories counter, Harley makes some chrome bugs that you can stick on your teeth, if you'd like. They are about $100 a set, but you can get them for $79 plus shipping from Zannotti's!

I just picked up an SG in Feburary of this year...already talking to the dealer about a replacement as long as my wife can't tell the difference; I need a Deep Cobalt Blue and I hear they don't make that color for 07 SG's?

She would never notice the six speed or 96 inch engine, BUT a different color would be a dead give away.

I'm not sure who's telling you that, but that color is available for 07.

Just at the HD website for color details.

I also spent some time at the dealer today, just a FYI for those worried about buying pipes, the 07 stock pipes sound great, they are louder than any stock hd ive ever heard and they rumble more than the SE touring mufflers I just put on my 02. I talked to my friend who is the manager there and he said at HD's dealer meeting they were told that because they were able to do away with most all the upper motor noise that they redesigned the mufflers to get every decibel allowed.
