Default Appears like slack when downshifting

I have a 2009 egc with 2700 miles. I have noticed that when I downshift from 6th to 5th or 5th to 4th I get a little sound like slack (not on the downshift but when I let the clutch go and throttle up). The sound appears to comes from somewhere in the area of the tranny. This only happens on downshift and only on the higher gears. What gives??????

With the bike off and in first gear (without clutching) I rock it back and forward and I do get about 1 inch or so of free play before it stops moving. Is this normal???

THANKS!!

A small clunck when you release the clutch and throttle up.

LMAO. If only there was someone around here that knew WTF he was talking about in regards to a clunk...

To answer the OP's question, a small amount of forward back movement with the engine off and in 1st should be ok. There are many links between the engine and rear wheel. There has to be some slack in the system. But WTFDIK?

It's your clunker. It's clunked out. Your dealer can de-clunk it for a nominal fee.

Tell 'em Clunky sent you.

A little movement is normal. I occasionally hear a little slap (which I think is the chain in the primary) but no clunk and not sure what slack sounds like..

Your automatic tensioner may not be ratcheted up properly (i.e. sticking) Many have had to be opened up and have the tensioner fiddled with. Also, many have put in the SE compensator while in there to help with clunk and start up clunk issues.
