Thanks guys for weighing in. Found out having a cam installed, even by the dealer will void my warranty since it wasn't done before I first picked up the bike...so gotta make a decision about that. Although, as some of the threads here have stated, it seems all you need to do is change a wing nut to void the warranty so maybe it is a mute point.

Having a cam installed will not void the entire warranty, but could void any warranty repairs of lifters, pushrods, pistons, cyls etc if it is proved the cam contributed to the failure. Other items such as radio , wheels, etc would most definitley still be under warranty.

That is wrong, wrong, wrong. If he told you that call the Harley rep. Only those items listed in the SE race catalog that have checkered flags next to them void your warranty, those that have a GREEN flag (or go light such as the SE255 cams), will not void your warranty. It is amazing the BS that some dealers are telling their customers and you need to cross this dealer off your list.

GO LIGHT: These Screamin’ EagleŽ products are 50-state street legal for
sale and use on all vehicles, including those that are pollution controlled.

CROSSED FLAGS: Harley-DavidsonŽ motorcycles modified with some
(Screamin’ EagleŽ) performance engine parts must not be used on
public roads and, in some cases, may be restricted to closed-course competition.
In this Screamin’ EagleŽ section, all engine-related performance parts identified
with the crossed flags symbol are intended for racing applications only and are not
legal for sale or use in California on pollution-controlled vehicles. Alterations of
emission related components constitutes tampering under the U.S. EPA guidelines
and can lead to substantial fines and penalties.

Man you need to get a friend that is mechanically inclined with some tools, buy a service manual and start wrenching for yourself. That's the highest quote I think anyone has posted for cams here. Call a independent or another dealer and get another quote. If you have a tuner with autotune you can dial in pretty close with it instead of getting the dyno. Really consider doing it yourself.

I have never done such a project and after printing off IClicks writeup and following it to a tee we ordered the bearing puller. Me and my buddy did both our bikes in 2 days in my garage and I got to tell you it is a totally different bike.
Thank you Iclick and others who chipped in with their advice and knowledge.
For those wanting to do this and are worried about not having knowledge, with a lift it is really very clear cut and suprisingly very easy. Timing marks are very clear and a can't miss unless your blind. O-rings stick right out. Really is a simple job.

For $985 we did both our bikes and recieved a new map from jamie at fuelmoto and have a smile on our faces that is priceless.

Thanks again Iclick

Dave, my 2010 SE catalog shows all cams with the checkered-flag icon, including the 255's. Their description of these items doesn't mention the warranty but says they are not legal on public roads. It also says that installing any SE hardware may void your warranty, and you should "see your dealer for more information."

Glad it worked out well. I'm trying to figure out why it cost you so much. It really isn't a difficult job on late-model bikes as long as you have a manual and follow it.

I just had my 255's done last week. When I first asked the dealer..they said 4 hrs. labor...but when I had the cams installed they only charged me 3 hrs. labor ($75.00 per hr.) and I supplied all the parts. I brought a set of almost new cams here for $140.00 and the adjustable pushrods and other parts were $175.00 and I got a canned map from Jamie at FuelMoto... total cost $540.00.
