Default Cam install

Been thinking about updating my scoot with a 255. The dealer is quoting appx $1,600 for the install, including some time on the dyno (I have a stage 1 with a sert). They said the book calls for 7 hours install time. After picking myself up off of the floor, I couldn't help but think the quote seemed incredibly high. I don't have the knowledge or tools to do it myself. Can anyone tell me what a reasonable 255 install should cost, including some dyno time?

About 4 - 4.5 hrs for the install, tops. Maybe he is adding in an extra three for the dyno time ??? But $1600, wow!

7 hours @ $100 hr, plus the cams and gaskets doesn't come anywhere near $1600. Local HD dealer here gets $69 hr.

3 1/2 with adjusatble pushrods 4 1/2 without + 4 hours dyno time!

Do the math for your dealers labor rate.

cams 300
pushrods 160
gaskets 25- 75 depending on pushrods.

My dealer wants 4 hrs labor with adjustable rods plus parts. Parts should be around $500.00 plus labor at $75.00 per hr.($300.00) and lets say 4 hrs. of dyno time another $300.00 total $1,100.00.

Just DIY, as it isn't difficult, and removing the exhaust is the worst part, IMO. The quote you were given is ludicrous. There are some tutorials here you might want to peruse:

Write-up 1

Write-up 2

With enough cost-cutting skill you can do the job for <$200-300, including the inner-bearing tool and all parts.

I'm having Jamie at fuelmoto (a site sponsor here, held in high regard) quoted me 1,100 to supply the parts, install Woods 6-6 cams, and three hours dyno time. And that's what I'm going with in about two or three weeks here. 1600 sounds f'ing ridiculous to me. Oh, and that included 3 hours of dyno time.
