I recenty purchased a 06 R/K flhpi. I love the bike but at low speed, say 25 or 35 around town she is not very smooth. The best way to describe it is, it feels like its out of time, bucking and kicking around. I just want to know if this is just the nature of the beast. I was also told that the police model is set up with a bigger cam and that that is what im feeling. I hope someone out there can shed some light on this for me. Thanks
My guess is 2200-2400 rpm in third. Seems like that rpm is where a lot of riding in town or suburban areas is done. 50 in 4th for example. You shouldn't have to wail around in 2nd to be comfortable at lower speeds. I can't imagine any cop on his scoot would stand for that.
My 05 RKC did the same. In our local state park at 20 mph speed limit 2nd gear would not get it done without the chugging (school zones too).
I went with a TFI unit and it cured the problem as well as the decel popping that it had.
Try the tech section here for some good info on TFI (and other fuel management fixes).
