Default remapping

Dealer tells me not to ride my bike at all after installing new Vance and Hines slip ons without first remapping. Why not? Of course if the bike is pinging terribly or otherwise running bad I wouldnt. Im thinking I could at least ride to the dealer 80 miles away. Please correct me if Im wrong. Thanks

Should be fine with just slipons for now if you did not get her breathing better with an air cleaner upgrade

I have a '10 Road King with Rinehart slip-ons and it runs great without a remap. I'm told that if I change the air cleaner that I'll need a download.

07,

You are 100% correct. if it's not pinging or running bad then NO you do not need to remap.
If you get a Stage1 air cleaner then yes you will probably need to.
More air in and more out most suredly will need a new map.

Tell that guy he's an idiot...

Why is the guy an idiot? Here is an afr line of 20% throttle pull on a bike that had the head pipe changed, not the muffler. Even just changing mufflers will alter the way an engine breaths. This afr line was straight before the pipe change. Just my opinion but any bike that has been properly mapped runs better.

The newer bikes (50 state EPA approved) need more fuel out of the box period! Can you ride 80 miles to the dealer to remap with just slip on's without damage? Yes, provided that's all you have done. But get it remapped ASAP. Burn premium, minimize the load on the bike and avoid hard accel and decel. The valves and pistons you save, will be your own.

A "decel pop" is an explosion in a motor that you don't want long term.

Wolfe,
The guys an idiot for telling him that he HAS TO remap with JUST slip-ons and that's not true. Yeh it will be breathing differently no doubt but I also doubt he'll NEED TO remap.

Vance & Hines will NOT support not remapping with just adding their slip ons. Maybe you are willing to warranty his motor?
