Default rk handlebar bushings

my 07 flhp arrived last night. i think i will keep my2010 limited stock for a while and do some mods to the rk. bought it over the internet and it needs a little maintenance also. just warning you guys/gals that probably a few questions will be forthcoming.

my first one is this. first ride was great, although i thought the handlebars seemed bent and i feared a crash. when i got home i realized i could just move the handlebars back into position by pushing them all the way to one side with some slight force. now they are straight, but can be moved easily. havent taken it apart yet to look and yes i have a service manual. symptom feels like either something that needs to be tighened or the bushings need replacing. it has 16k miles and replacing bushings seems like it would be too early with those miles, but wanted your opinion.

thx - tin

Replacing the stock rubber bushings and steel washer cups with the newer polyurethane bushings is a good idea. Take a look at your service manual, you will have to take the clamp cover off which includes partially dismantling the headlamp nacelle and the headlight, but not a huge project, it should take an hour or less if you are mechanically inclined. Better bushings and you'll be able to rotate the bars forward or back to more suit your needs while the clamp cover is off.

thanks d. i had to do this with my 98 low rider, but made an incorrect assumption that these newer bikes would already have the polyurethane bushings.... thank you.

Good idea but if you are going to replace the bushings I highly recommend using polyurethane. Should never have to worry about them wearing out. Well never is a long time but beats the snake snot out of the stock rubber ones.

Dolt, guess I am a slow typer.....

The bushings aren't the real problem. Replace the two handlebar clamps with the new one piece clamp. Major improvement and a must for any tall bars.
