Default Handlebar Pain

I need to adjust the handlebars on my '07 RKC so I took out my service manual to check out the procedure. What a frigging pain the **** mess just to adjust the bars. Maybe I'll just wrap the bars in a towel and giv 'em a good whack with a sledge hammer.

I guess some of that is so you don't accidently start the engine and roar off down the driveway with loose handlebars tryin to save the bike.

It's sad, but the easiest way to adjust your handlebars on a King is to buy a different seat.

BadBob, but this is where you get creative and get the dealer to adjust them for nothing.

Service Manager - "Hey Bob, how's the bike"

BadBob - "Great, but my arms are killing me"

Service Manager - "How come BadBob" (don't ya like how I made the Service Manager friendly...it could happen)

BadBob - "The handlebars STILL aren't right"

Service Manager - "How come BadBob" (he doesn't talk much)

BadBob - Well I guess when they adjusted them, they weren't back as far as I thought they were"

Sevice Manager - "We never adjusted those bars BadBob" (yeah, I know I could just call you Bob, but this sounds much cooler)

BadBob - Sure you did,I requested that it be done when I bought the bike"

Service Manager - "Let me check your original work order"

BadBob - "hmmmhmmhmhmm" (he's humming while he's waiting for the Sevice Manager to come back)

Service Manager - "BadBob, there's nothing on the work order"

BadBob - "WHAT.....I spend 20 grand on a bike and they forgot to adjust my handlebars, this is crazy, I specifically asked that it be done, don't you remember? We were standing right here when I asked that it be done.

Service Manager - "let me take care of that for you BadBob at no charge, should be ready in about 30 minutes"

Yup. Then when badbob returns to pick up the bike, it has a different seat on it.

It IS overwhelming at first. I just changed my 07 RKC bars to the chrome custom touring bars. No more than had them on and find blemishes in the chrome. Rode back to the dealer, parts gal came out and looked at them, said "new ones on order". Sheeeit, I thought, have to take the entire front end apart again. Had the new bars on and shined back up in less then an hour. Take your time, spread everything out neatly when dissassembling, put a nice think blanket or what not on the front fender BEFORE you start the "operation".

I ignored the MoCo manual and used the procedure outlined in the link below. Easy as pie. Took about 30 minutes total, start to finish.

I didn't put the screw and nut back that holds the front of the cover. When reassembled, the two screws under the cheap plastic screw cover are enough to keep it tightly secured. And the chrome spear thing is secure also with just the front screw. Had no problems with this, and I can get to the handlebar bolts in a few minutes.
