I didn't put the screw and nut back that holds the front of the cover. When reassembled, the two screws under the cheap plastic screw cover are enough to keep it tightly secured. And the chrome spear thing is secure also with just the front screw. Had no problems with this, and I can get to the handlebar bolts in a few minutes.

The masking tape trick described in the web page makes installing the screw a snap.

I agree with that, but if you leave it out, you won't have to take the headlight out just to get to the bar clamp.
