Buddy of mine has a '04 RG.
Talking to him earlier, he was telling me it looks like the bike is going straight and the bars don't look like they are following.
He is running Wild Chubby 8.5" Mini's.
We put new riser bushings in a couple months ago so those aren't bad.

I thought I saw a thread about this in the past few days but can't find it.

WTF could his problem be???
Loosen up the riser bolts a little and put the bars where you want them then tighten them back up. \\; You wouldn't think there would be any movement as tight as new bushings fit but there is. \\; Lots of people complain about crooked bars and ride them that way, but it's really a simple fix to get them straight.
How do you get to the riser bolts? I aligned my bars last night by taking apart the headlight and loosening the clamps that hold the bars. This really didn't affect lateral movement of the bars, though. I got them adjusted mostly where I'd like them, but it was clear to me that the rubber bushings were part of the riser assembly, not the handlebar clamp assembly.

Thanks,

You would have to remove the nacelle, remove the top cover. Turn your bars full left and from underneath you should be able to access the right side riser bolt. Do the same for the left side by turning your bars full right. This is just a synopsis, more detail can be had from the service manual. This works for an 08, should be similar on other years.

I changed my bars to chubby style, rather I had it done by an indy. I noticed the same thing and questioned another indy. He is very experienced, being a former instructor at MMI and builds custom choppers besides working on HD's. He told me the stock HD bar bushings are rubber and if you change bars you should go to polyurethane.
Oh, is there a section for handlebar related questions?????
Ain't no need to loosen the bolts....Just turn the bars to full lock and push them straight....My beach bars were always crooked with the stock rubber bushings. I straightened them about every ride. I finally put in poly bushings and solved the problem for the most part.
The main problen on ´07 and older bikes is the two piece handlebar clamps. HD now uses a one piece clamp, and it is especially helpful on higher and wider bars. Good cheap upgrade.
