Thanks for all the great advice - In looking back at the calendar - we should be heading west from Boston about the third week of June.
I do understand the suggestion of seeing more of MI - However our main goal as we head west is to ride in certain States - We need to complete that goal. {As you can see in my Avatar - we are close to completing our map}
Last Sept we drove our SUV north along the Eastern coast of WI - up and over to Mackinac Is - great drive..
Anyway, back to the bike trip.. As we ride through OH>IN>IL>WI>MN>IA We will be looking for some nice Rural B&B to stay in and find the Lightning Bugs/Fireflies.. We have found by staying in a local B&B - we get to know the locals and enjoy our visit better..
you'll see them in Iowa. you can probably find some great bed and breakfasts to stay at in the Amana Colonies....don't just do a fly-by through our state...stay a day and enjoy what we have here.
The OKC zoo has an amphitheater that has concerts spring to fall. It's bordered on both sides by 50 ft evergreen trees. Part of the fun is watching the fireflies fly all around the trees after dark.
There are plenty in south central Nebraska, and if you get this far and enjoy museums, one of the best pioneer museums in the country is located in Minden...........Harold Warp Pioneer Village will give you history from late 1800's to the mid 1960's. Also a nice local bed and breakfast.
Agree about Pioneer village in Minden. Eastern NE is thick with lightning bugs, depending on the weather. Took some Coloradans out last year that had never seen them. Strange watching 50 yr olds out chasing bugs.
Congrats on saving Nebraska for your last state. We don't clutter up our state roads by having a bunch of lakes, mountains, and forrests to have to drive around. But there are some interesting places to stop. Just stop and ask, the locals always know.
Yes we have fire flies here in southern michigan also. US12 is a good road to travel across the southern edge of michigan it has many B&B's along it and it is a nice route to travel in the southern part of the state it dont get too urbanized until you start getting around Saline or Ypsilanti from here on it is pretty much city riding. Get your self a michigan map and check it out. Irish Hills can be a nice ride during that time of year. just my Good luck have a nice ride.
