I thik it depends on the year and the weather. It seems here lately that I see them more around the time corn is nearing maturity. If you go by the old saying "Corn should be knee high by the Fourth of July", that may give a timeline as to when to expect them. Maybe I was an evil child, but as a kid we used to get out the wiffle ball bats and smack the crap out of 'em.
