I had a 2000 road king. I like the road kings. When I saw the Street Glide I really liked it and traded my road king for the street glide.
The street glide handles much better and with a sundowner seat the ride is excellent. The batwing is something I never thought I would like but now that I have it I really like it and would not want to be without it.

Ride them both. Rent each one and see for yourself. I think you will like the street glide as much as I did.

I went through the same arguments as you and ended up with a Road King. I love the ride and the versatility. Do you ride two up often? If so, I have several friends who went from RK's or EG's to the Streetglide and have been very dissapointed when riding two up. I think they use the HD lowering shocks to drop the ***. This could probably be corrected though with some Progressives. I say figure all the arguments, ridem both, blind fold yourself, and throw a dart at the wall. Whatever bike you hit, you buy. Good luck and welcome to the forum.

If you want flexibility in having a fairing or not, the only decision is the Roadking. It is way too much work to remove the fairing on a street glide, EGLide, Ultra, etc. .

An RK with a fairing from anyone of the aftermarket companies with a Radio installed will give you the most options available.

Man, now I'm not anywhere closer to a decision! They are both beautiful machines. I'm going back to the dealer today to look at both of them again. Isn't it great to live in a country where we are fortunate enough to be able to even make a decision like this? Thanks for all your replies, I can't wait to get back into riding.

The SG are nice but personally I just didnt want a fairing. I went with the RKC and an ipod. Totally satisfied with the quick release windshield and backrest. Whatever decision you make, you cant go wrong. We are all very lucky to be able to straddle a sweet rumbling harley.

the "advanced" HK radio is crap. it's difficult to hear at speed unless you run quiet pipes (I have Hogtunes and it's still impossible to hear clearly at highway speeds.) My radio is seriously flaky, and while some people say theirs works fine, seems like everyone has an issue with it sooner or later. I would NOT buy an SG based on the radio.

I own an SG and just got back from a trip in Cali where I rented an 05 RK and put 2000 miles on her. I loved being able to ride without the shield, the airflow was nice in hot weather and it made the bike feel smaller. BUT I wouldn't get a RK Classic or any HD with tube tires - 3 guys on the trip riding those bikes got flats. Nobody riding tubeless got a puncture.

If I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get a Road King (07). But don't get me wrong, I love my SG. Bottom line, buy what you like, just don't let the crappy stereo influence you.

I just have an EGS but I have SG evvy. All I can say is once you ride witha stereo you will never ride without one. All my buddies have customs and fatboys a full spectrm of stuff. I am the first to get the bagger and they all want one now because of the stereo. I have an amp and aftermarket stereo. I can hear mine over my buddies pumped out rat bike with thunder headers when he's riding right next to me so he can listen to my stereo.
