I've ridden both and own a RK Classic just because I like the way it looks and have never considered rolling on two wheels with a radio blaring. Something strange about that to me.

You will be amazed at how these things handle. I can lean my RK over more than I could my FXST and my XL. I've yet to scrape it and I was kicking up sparks with those two all the time. The other day I swept through a fast on ramp corner doing about 60 with the RK on its side and a crotch rocket right behind me. The only thing I was worried about was catching my highway pegs. I know that dude on the crotch rocket was blinking pretty hard to clear his vision because I was actually accelerating away from him in the corner (woosie!).

Around town is around town on any motorcycle that weighs as much as Harleys do. Once you get into the big twins if you lose concentration at low speed it doesn't matter what kind of bike it is, Dyna Super Glide or Ultra. When it wants to go over it will whether you like it or not. No one I know can stop a bike 650 - 800+ lbs. bike from falling over.

But with that said an Ultra or RK will dip in and out of slow traffic and whip around a parking lot like a scooter as long as you keep the wheels turning. I can't believe how light the front end of these things feel at low speed. That's some good engineering I guess.

Ride both. Don't think that the RK is a bike that is limited to cruising around town, and don't think that the Ultra is a bike that is limited to long distant riding. They both do both very well.

Rent both for extended rides.....only way you'll know for yourself. You'll get all sorts of opinions here. I rented an EG classic for 4 hours....mountain roads, highway, and around town. I thought the bike was pretty fun.....except in the mountains....to me it just didn't inspire much confidence on the curvy roads.....didn't enjoy it much. But then again I was coming off a GoldWing which handles much better IMO. Highway and around town the EG classic was fine. Never ridden a RK but Harleys in general are not great handlers or will inspire much real "fun" in the twisty backroads if you're into throwing bikes into turns......they're too heavy and have limited clearance.
But for cruising w/out being overly aggressive they do fine.

And any sportbike that has a RK pulling away from him in the turns means the sportbike rider doesn't know how to ride.....pure and simple. My CBR will pull away from a RK (or any other Harley)so fast in the corners that I'd bet I'd be in a different zip code before the RK even got a look at me.

I'm sort of in the same dilemma as you. One thing I like about the RK is the option to have no windshield in the summer months. I don't really like a shield except for colder weather. In 90 degree days....the batwing is something I think I wish I didnt' have in front of me......and I don't ever ride w/out wearing gear.

Go Ultra Classic. You won't regret it.

I have now owned both. I have not had a chance to take a trip on my ULtra yet. I have no complaints about the roadking. I loaded it down for a HOG rally and The Republic Of Texas rally (3-5hrs) from home. I changed the seat on my Roadking to the Sundowner Touring seat and My wife and I both enjoyed the change. It will take awhile to get her on the new bike, but I am sure she enjoy the armrests and the headsets when I buy one for the back. Ride them both, I never road the Ultra before buying and I dont have a single regret.
Good Luck
Jeff

RKC.... removable windshield, cruise control, awesome looks

the main reason i didnt go with the SG was due to the fixed fairing.

the RK's shield really blocks ALOT of the wind... you wont be disappointed
