You will be ok in July. Just don't ride down one of the road to a primitive campgrounds on your scooter. Please don't ask how I know. Tahquamenon Falls is a nice place to visit.

Michigan will have a HOG Rally the end of August up in the UP in Escanaba.
Basically, anytime is a good time to ride up there. Hottest time is late July and most of August, Lots of tourists up there also, Fall is gorgeous in the UP, the colors are fantastic.
Went from Escanaba thru the UP then over Mackinac Bridge on July 7th of last year. Temp was in the low 40s when started. Had 40 mph cross-winds going over Big Mac Bridge (I should add they had the paved portion of the southbound lane closed for re-surfacing). A bit "squishy" feeling riding on that grated metal bridge.

da grate is fun... dont grip the bars too tight.. just let em go and its a great ride.. A ride to consider is Chicago all the way up da coast and then into Mi and east to the bridge then down the west side of the state (party time!) then to where ever.. I did it on a jap bike had a ball ............
July-August for warm weather, not too crowded with tourists on the south and west side of the UP.
Mid-Late September for scenery, fall colors are great.
Anytime from when the snow leaves until it returns is great in da UP. If I had to choose, I would tour the last part of Sept or first week in Oct. Fall colors are fantastic.
