Ok so I seemed to have f'ed up my new scoot. I have a 1998 Electra glide, and I can not get the key in?? the big **** is pointing to the fork lock position forks are not locked...and here is the kicker, the key can not be installed because the barrel key part is between lock and unlock. I can not get the barrel key into the lock! Any ideas??? PLEASE I want to ride!!!!!! Thanks in advance.
There'a a great thread in here with an awesome video....search search search.
I watched the video (it is great BTW) But the issue I am having is not covered there, I searched for an hour last night and found nothing close. The problem I am having is not the big **** being stuck in the locked position it is that the lock where the key goes in is between the locked and unlocked position so I can not put the key in (no idea how the hell it happened!) try to envision the barrel lock as a clock, unlock is at 11 and lock is at 1 (slot on the key) mine is stuck at 12.
I would think that you could use the video and other thread to remove the **** and take it to a locksmith. The only other thing I can come up with would sacrifice a key and cut off the key on the key (the part that goes into the slot) so that you can get the barrel in the there and turn the key. The key could be kept as the spare key or you could order new keys to replace it.
sounds like someone may have jacked with it somehow, but if cant even get the key in? short of a locksmith dont know what to tell you. sounds like have more issues as well, if its turned to lock position and its not locked then your tumblers sound like they are off. Did you remove the ignitions switch for anything?
I just got the bike last week, I have not taken the switch out...and yes I agree that some one jacked with it. I have a feeling that what happened is that the big **** got turned with the key not being installed...that is the only thing I can think of?
w/out jak'n it up any further can you trun the ignition at all, either way? what happens if you push the release button under the switch and just try to pull up or turn it? anything? may want to play it safe, get and just get a lock smith. the 1st thing would be to be able to get the key in. (I think I just stated the obvious, lol)
Any locksmiths in the house?

I have no idea if this will actually work or not, but sounds like you have nothing to lose. Get one of the white Bic ink pens, take the little black cap off the non-writing end, push the (now) open end of the pen down into the lock and see if you can get it to turn (wiggle the big **** a bit while trying to turn the pen). The kind of pen I'm talking about is the kind of soft plastic one, white with black caps. The reason I suggest this is that I've heard that you can use those kinds of pens to "pick" a barrel lock, so it "might" work to get your lock back into the correct position.
thanks for the replies guys, I am going home tonight armed with a bic pen and a freshly filed down key. After watching the video again I think that the previous owner may have not installed the **** correctly??? anywho I will follow up and let you all know if the pen trick works lol.
