Having gone through both both basic, and instructor level motor officer training, I strongly suggest that everyone get ABS. I think it should be a standard item on HD's. That being said, I don't think people fully understand how to properly use the ABS! In motor training riders are taught to use maximum braking WITHOUT engaging the ABS. Braking is one of the most important aspects of safe riding. I think the dealers need to spend more time and material educating buyers on how the system works and what its limitations are. It can really safe your bacon in the unexpected pucker moments. I suggest getting ABS and learning how to use it properly. Good luck!

My wife and I were riding when we both had to stop quickly. I managed to make it she didn't. Her bike hit a bump in the road which took weight off the back tire, when it came down her tire locked up and slid her sideways. When she let off the brake to stop the slide it high sided her and threw her off the bike with 8 broke ribs, a cracked shoulder blade and a broken thumb. With ABS this might not have happened...

I've seen the HD Video, is there more info on function and limitations that I should be looking at?

I have a 09 Ultra, without ABS, is this just a download? Does anyone know how much it would cost to get it on my bike now?

Ummm no...its a bit more than a download. I have no idea what a dealer would charge to install it...but I can't imagine it would be cheap.

Do you have ABS on yours? What was the extra cost at the time of purchase?, I don't remember, the one I liked didn't have it on but I bought it anyway. Thanks

The way my dealer explained it to me, "it would nt be cost effective."

There are brake lines, a special bearing set, calipers, and an electronic braking module at minimum. I'm looking at trading in my wrecked 2009 FLHTC + the insurance check on a 2010 with ABS.

I locked up the rear 2x in wet, cr*ppy NC roads. The first time I made it. The second time, not so much.

We all still have to keep the laws of physics in mind and no amount of electronics is going to overcome that. Having said that, I've got ABS on my bike and am darned glad it's there!

As someone else stated, it's a lot more than a simple download. There are wheel speed sensors, brake pressure pumps, relays, computer controls and who knows what else involved. I'm pretty sure this isn't something the dealer can just add on, it's got to come from the factory. Could be wrong though!
