Thanks Hog, great review, I too think the .Audio setup is great. Made the mistake of buying 2 converted $10 gaming headsets off ebay for $150, then had a heck of a time returning them and getting my money back. By using an adapter you can try out different headsets and if you accidentally drop your headset and melt the cord on your exhaust, it's cheap to replace.

I see the Audio 480 headsets are being discontinued, that's why they're so cheap.

I also purchased a couple of these for $14.00 and will give them a try, they look very close to the HD boom style headsets. Sometimes wearing ear plugs or ear buds for long times can be hard to handle, I think these will work as well as the HD version.
I'll give an update

They have discontinued the old .Audio 480 but continue to make the newer version with the USB adapter, no difference in the headset but I guess they feel they can charge more with the adapter which we don't need. I'd be interested in where you found the microsoft headset for $14, might want to try that out myself.

Do a google shopping search on Microsoft 2000 headsets.
Here are some for $5.41, open box, but full warranty from Microsoft. Wish I would have seen that!

I think they will work fine, they have microphone noise cancellation just as the Audio 480's do. They fold up into a very compact storage size. I'm hoping to get them by this weekend to test them out.
I can't justify paying HD prices for their headsets any more.......

Just a note of interest, I had both the J&M most expensive headset and the H-D headset. The H-D headset sounds (to me) much better than the J&M.

Hog, did you get the Microsoft 2000? I purchased one and am not impressed with the mic or the sound from the headset, I have to put the volume 3/4 to make the sound decent and the cord is WAY too long. What do you think?

I did, but haven't tried it out yet, if it doesn't work, I'm not out much.

Update on the Audio 480. We rode 200 miles Saturday and had to turn the VOX down to closed and use the push to talk. Way too much wind noise. Will try a larger windsock. But even if that doesn't work push to talk is a small price to pay for the lighter weight of the headset and helmet. Oh and the $35 vs HD or J&M price.
