Very sad indeed!!! Prayers to them and loved ones. As far as the Dump truck dr. I hope he wasn't texting on his cell. I see more and more of this on the hwy today. My wife and I were stopping for a stoplight and I heard tires squealing. Looked to my left and a girl came sliding through the stoplight in the next lane. She was on her cell phone??? I've started leaving more room between me and cars in front while stopped. I keep my eye on the car behind me to see if they are stopping. Scares the hell out of me!!! I can't just stop riding!! This same thing could have happened to cars!
He was shuffling his paperwork getting it in order for his next stop. He wasn't even paying attention to the road until it was too late.
Very sorry to hear about so many being run over by a truck. The speed limit is so fast in Arizona that i don't care to ride there anymore. Even on hwy 95 people go 80mph.
The speed limit is so fast??? Where?
On the highways it's 55/65 in-near towns and 75 out on the really empty stretches of highway. How is that any faster than any where else in the country?
Speed Limit != How Fast People Drive
For the record, he wasn't speeding. He wasn't paying attention to the road.
This particular driver had been cited many times over the previous couple of years for inattentive driving and driving an unsafe vehicle. He was a killer waiting to happen.
When I'm stopped, I leave it in gear, leave myself an "out", and watch my mirrors. In a group it's harder to accomplish though. Hard to have 8 "outs".
Ride safe!
Another potential visibility issue is that, if I remember correctly, there was a car behind the group. They may have never even knew it was coming even if they had looked in their mirrors.
Our thoughts definitely go out to them and their families. I'm a fairly new rider in AZ., and it's freaking crazy out here. You're always a moving target. There might be a charity ride in these riders name at some point soon out here. Let you all know if I hear something.

There was a candle light vigil there last night at sunset. There was also a run starting at like 10:00 or 11:00am this morning, but I couldn't make it as I work on Saturdays.
would be great to hear that one of the bikers had a brother who decided to torture and kill the driver and gets off with temporary insanity. I would ride out there to shake the brothers hand and buy him a few cocktails.!! just wishful thinking
