I think it entirely depends on your riding needs. The stock setup is not a hot rod but it does very well on a day in and day out bases. I have taken two trips last year from California to Colorado and Oregon, two up and fully loaded with baggage. The bike preformed beautifully with its a stock setup. At 70/75 mph, mpg at 39 the bike did all I needed. If speed is your game and you want to spend thousands of dollars to achieve that goal, go for it. If you want cruise along and enjoy the ride, there is nothing wrong with the stock setup. To each its own.

I have done the pipes, A/C and tuner. Bought the SE255 cams and once installed, that will be the end of it for me.

I kind of mix my mods between safety, comfort, looks, performance without going too crazy on any of them. I am an old hot rodder so I want some bang out of the sled but not looking to race, play the dyno game or put out an hp king.

I see some of the guys builds and they are great! Just not what I need for my cruising.

Cams and a mild head job will do you fine and you'll think that you have a new ride, motor wise.

I didn't even change pipes of A/C. No choice for that. The UC with stock 96 actually serves its purpose very well.

Motor work for some never enters their mind and are happy with what they have. Some may have never experienced riding a motor other than stock and think that is enough. For me, I tour alot and load down the bike. Even though I tour solo when out on the highway and especially in mountains or hill country, the stock motor leaves me unimpressed for passing purposes. I want to pass as quickly as possible as most do and when in 6th gear the stock motor is really a dog. Yes, you can downshift but, even then it takes some time to get up to speed. The 07' and 08' models suffer from poor gearing in my opinion and the new ones have different gearing. My recent build meets all my expectations for touring and I am not into street racing. Every bike I have owned has had motor work done to bring out the performance that should have come from the factory.

Did the cams and stage1. I like to be able get down when I want to. I still have some fire for speed and g-force. Will be doing the full 110 or larger next winter. Want distance rideable, sorta mpg easy, good torquer engine. Thinking maybe a 113 or 117 may be my happy medium. Have to research some first.

I agree, I did the same just this week and I'm pleased with the results.

My bike has plenty of power and speed to get me into trouble. I wouldn't mind more, but I don't see enough need to spend the money right now.

If the engine runs good don't mess with it, (if it aint broke don't fix it), but if it's runnin like crap, open it up ,upgrade as much as you can afford plus a little more until it scares you when you twist the throttle.
