It is so dependant on what your definition of the 'riding experience' is. With any engine mod comes the possibility of warranty issues, extra stress on related systems that were not engineered to support, etc. It also comes with more snap, speed, performance. Only you can determine which factors are most important to your personal riding experience.

I rode a 91 Evo for 19 years that had no internal engine mods. New pipes and a re-jet was all I needed at the time to satisfy my riding experience needs.

My needs have changed over the years and now appreciate the bigger motor in my FLHTK (as well as the motor mounts )

Define what is important to your riding experience and you will answer your own question!

Good luck!

Rode Goldwings before I came over to Harley. No sense trying to
match the performance and ride of the Goldwing. My Harley "is what it is".
I DID upgrade to cam gears....just to do away with the "when should I
check the cam chain shoes" ordeal. I am sure there will always be faster
and quicker bikes than mine, but I know....that if I want my bike to be quicker
and faster....all I have to do is open the throttle farther, hold it there longer
before I shift (then repeat). 88C.I. ....90 MPH on the interstate. Don't need
much more than that. (who remembers when a 1200cc bike was BIG!)

Stock motor serves us just fine.........luckily I've outgrown my tire smoking,
wheelie riding youth.
Last bike had 98 hp / 98 torque right out of the crate........rear tire could
break loose in 2nd gear with a twist, front tire could lift 2 ft off the ground
with little effort......and the bike and I tipped the scales at over a half ton.

I'm now enjoying the scenery and music, where as I was enjoying the 'need for speed'........

Recently had 103" stage II kit with 255's installed at my dealer for $1400 with tax. (I already had the PCV and the SE AC). The 96" with the gearing on my 09 was very responsive when stock. However, this upgrade was money well spent very torquey and much quicker. I've spent much more than that on shiney do-dads that looked pretty on bikes but didn't change a thing on the feel of them. For me, best bang for the buck upgrade I've done.

On my first bike did stage one (exhaust, ac, download). Decided on CVO with factory 110 for second ride so wouldn't need to do anything. Based on what I see on CVO forum, people do lots of upgrades to these as well (cams, etc.). Seems like no matter what based factory level you start from - always something you need to do to make it different/better.

2nd Ultra with the 103/255. Couldn't be happier. Just enough torque to pull me and me' load around trucks/tin tepee's a bit quicker. Plus, it adds a bit to the fun factor, which is one of the reasons I like to ride...wait...the only reason I like to ride...I think...there must be another reason...I would think anyway...oh well, memories good, just short

Cool stock

The stock 96 or the 88 has plenty enough power for me. I leave mine stock so I can spend more money on gas which means i can afford to ride more. After all, isnt that what we are suppose to do? Ride em, not work on em. I dont even change the pipes or ac. Just too much of all that crap gets in the way of riding as far as Im concerned.

I leave mine stock. I've never had a problem keeping up with bikes with more HP. If you cant keep up maybe you should be spending your money on riding lessons.

I'm impressed. I would not have guessed that more would rather keep their engines stock.
