Default '09 binding throttle grip?

I've got an '09 FLTR and my wife's got an '09 FLHX. I put new heated grips on her bike and put new chrome controls on mine over the winter - so both had the grips off & installed. A couple of weeks ago, her throttle grip began binding progressively worse during a ride - to the point where she could let go and the throttle would stay in that position (sort of like an unsafe version of cruise control!). I found that the switch-housing & controls seemed to have slipped toward the center of the bars and this pulled on the groove in the throttle grip to the point it didn't rotate freely. I re-adjusted the clamps and REALLY tightened things!!

Yesterday, I experienced the VERY same thing on my FLTR!! I have yet to fix it, but suspect the problem is the very same thing.

Perhaps I didn't tighten these clamps as tight as I should've on BOTH bikes and I'll REALLY tighten them (like I did on the FLHX) when I do mine. I used thread-lock and never had this happen when I changed the controls on my prior '06 Road King. Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions, things I'm overlooking, or suggestions??

I read a lot of threads about bar changes and grip changes as I am looking to do that myself very soon. I haven't seen it come up here before. I want to see what people say also.

Had that happen, I had the assembly on a little to far which caused some binding, backed it off a hair just so I could feel a small amount of end play in the grip. Also make sure there isn't a little piece of rubber causing it.

In my case, it wasn't that it was installed so that there was no end-play, but that the end-play that was there vansihed as things seemed to move. When I left my house yesterday it was fine, yet after ~100 miles I it was binding and sticking with NO end-play. Things clearly moved....and not over many months or many hundreds of miles either.

You have to move things around a bit...
I noticed when I put my heat deamons on my throttle would bind.
I made it bind and them loosened things up till it snapped back closed and retightened everything....

Not only the switch housing screws but the handlebar clamp as well....
Carefull man....that binding thing is no joke. Address it.

had the same problem last night.it happened when i went to role my controls forward.it was fine when i tightened up every thing then it just keeped getting tighter.loosened up the controls and roled it back till it all worked fine.seems to be a sweet spot where it will work.one way or the other and you seem to have this problem.

Well, I losened things up, established a little end-play & non-binding rotation, re-applied some thread-lock and securely tightened the clamps, and we'll see if it stays (this time). Thanks for the input!!

Yeah, when I changed my grips, I didn't have any issue w/binding, but I did manage to mess up the stupid brake switch. I didn't want to pay the $70 labor for HD to change my grips when I bought the bike. Instead, I paid the $118 for them to fix the brake switch, after I changed the grips for free. I found out there are a lot of sensitive parts in there.

I have an 09 ulra with 16k and 15k with heated harley grips. no problems but yesterday the throtal grip started to stick. I did use proper torque when i installed. dealership mechanic told me on the side that he's seen some others coming in for the same same thing. right now i'm waiting for word on whether the dealership will fix since i put them on. ( i have extended warranty)'
