I did this to my 09 s/g had to modify the rear filler strips...
Can you tell me more about your filler strip mod? Step-by-step, tools used, where did you find rubber grommet. Thanks, this is exactly what I need to do to my 2013 Road Glide Custom to add the saddle bag guards. PM me if TMI.
I have a Road King and I've seen some Road Glides, Street Glides and some Road Kings not have the chrome hard bag guard. Is there an alternative part I can replace this so that it doesn't have that guard?
I got mine from JP years ago for my '07 FLHR , just a short turn-in that takes the place of the vertical section. Gives the 'Ol Lady more leg room!

Agreed! More passenger leg room, cleaner look. Ebay has em, just type in "saddlebag guard eliminator". Got em for my '09, paid $40 bucks, now searching for extended side covers to match my extended bags...

You can just take the guard off without any trouble.
...... 'guardless' is a cool look, but the 1st time you drop your bike you'll wish you'd left'm on
I could go both ways on this. My original left bag hit the ground and it got jacked up pretty bad with the gaurds on. My buddy had a drunk girl knock over his bike and his bag and latch cover just got scratched with no bag gaurds.
