I know this will start alot of controversy, but I removed the screaming eagle air filter and slip on's and converted back to stock and I honestly can't tell any difference in how she runs. The bike does have the stage 1 ecm download. Now I did notice a huge difference when I had the PC III, thunderheader and screaming eagle air filter combo. The problem was I was riding her pretty hard all the time. So I decided to go back to stock form. I am just surprised how little of a difference the air filter and slip on's actually make without a change to the ECM.
You could take a stock bike off the show room floor and put it on a dyno with a tuner of choice and get an increase in HP and TQ.
You can put slip ons, on the bike with no tunning and get away with it.
If you change the intake so there is more air flow you have set up for a lean condition and are asking for problems.
Not sure what a HD stage one down load does with a stock set up.
If you don't use a dyno or custom maps with a tuner, I agree that you should leave your bike stock.
Not sure how hard you could run any HD with out modifing the engine. Max HP and tq is in the 70s, not exactly a HP TQ set up for riding hard. Don't get me wrong I enjoy the tuned set up I'm running but I don't think it's a race horse.

Most of the "Power" a lot think they get with these minor upgrades is because they read "loud exhaust" as power. Unless you go big and change things like, cams, 2into1 exhaust &PCIII tuned on a dyno, youre going to only get mostly loud sound with only a very light increase in power.
But you know if raw power is your thing and you have to have harley, buy a V-rod. I love Harleys but they are not the powerhouses of motorcycles, for instance, harley stock 60+ HP, Kawasaki kz1400 (1352cc) stock 177HP.
Ditto. I know it's everyone's own choice and they can do whatever they want, but it just seems odd to me to take a 800 lb touring Harley and try to make it fast. I'd rather keep it reliable, smooth and quiet. If I want fast, I can buy two Hyabusa's for the cost of one Ultra. I just can't ride a Hyabusa 500 miles in a day...
