I guess I will have to make my tail brighter, I was riding behind a guy that had the flashing brake setup one day and it really works, Every time he hit the brake my eyes were drawn to the flash, I like that Idea. Is this LED flash insert much brighter than the stock incandescent bulb Quadancer?
G$ - I think traffic behind you at the lights will just SIT there, because they won't see the green light with your red afterflash still in their eyes!!!
Good and bad news on the light: it's 2" diameter and I found out that '99 and later softails have the 1" hole for the 1157 to go through, and the glue that holds the taillight nacelle together is about as strong as the plastic.
Most LED's that fit thru the 1" hole can only hold about 12 lights, and will be mostly about as bright as stock.
Good news I got from a BMW blog: http://www.ibmwr.org/ktech/taillite.shtml
it seems that the 2357 bulb at your local otto parts is about 25% brighter than stock 1157's and about .90 cents - BUT - has a shorter lifespan on the brakes - 400 hrs compared to 1200 stock. I can live with that, and keep the stock bulb in the bags for a spare.

Aw, this saga just keeps getting...deeper. I decided to get brave and cut the taillight housing with a hole saw -

then I trimmed the rubber from the hole area for regluing with hot melt:

THEN I found out the '05 is NOT an 1157 bulb! My manual is WRONG -damn Chilton-so the hunt for a receptacle began. Lo and beeehold! A turn signal from our old Toyota is not only an 1157, but is 1" with the SAME TABS and FITS PERFECTLY!!! So, in goes the new receptacle with some modified splice connectors for the wires:

The old taillite was bright enough to work:

And the new taillite looks like the brake is on in the daytime- this pic does it NO justice!

...and when I hit the brakes...BEEEEM! It will sear your eyeballs! My camera kept shutting down trying to take pics of it - too bright!
Downside of this light is no refraction to the license plate - it's dark at night - not that anyone could read it anyway with the light on. The world's first ToyoDavidson Tail light?
