Looking to have some SE211's installed next week. Will I notice a difference in the sound of the motor from the exhaust? I know I'll feel the differrence just curious about the sound.
Already have a big sucker, Bassani slip-ons and a PC-V, not doing anything else besides the cams and pushrods.
It will be louder. I put a SE-204 in my 01 Ultra. Stock 88. It got considerably louder. If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose the 211? My understanding is unless you up the compression, you lose low end torque with that cam. The 255 and 204 seem to be popular choices for an otherwise stock 96. Hope it all works out for you.
Having ridden a bike with 211 cams and stock compression and can report to you that the result is a completely gutless engine below 3000 rpm, good results in a narrow power band between 3000 and 4500 rpm and a feeling like the engine is lagging above 4500. The exhaust sounds like a popcorn popper and I judge it must be the cams since I have the exact same mufflers and true duals on my own bike(BB 103 w the 255 cams)and it sound fine. I cant stress to you more that you need to address the compression issue and suggest ported and decked heads to raise your compression ratio and take advantage of the middle and high rpm power these cams can provide.

When you say completely gutless; is it worst than stock?
I had a similar set up to yours before I installed my cams. I bought Andrews 26H cams.
While not as hot as the 255 I am very happy, with 93 tq and 85 hp. It rides like stock on steroids, very rideable. You could easily lose power down low (or up high for that matter) with a wrong cam choice..
