Music CD in Data Format
Ok, I've been able to do it....I made a sample disc with about 6hrs of Music in Data format.
I had about a dozen songs that would not play....
I checked properties and nothing out of the ordinary compared to the ones that played ok
Also I found it takes a while for the Kardon radio to "read" the files.
once the file is read it goes pretty good...
the songs play fine in MP3 format by the way on a standard 13-16 song CD
Any suggestions????

Are the ones that won't play in MP3 format - or are they another data/audio format like WMA? The HK only likes MP3's I think.
I have noticed the same thing as you, it takes the HK a little while to read initially. This seems not to be an issue if you let songs play out back to back. If you incrament during play, it is slow to get to the next track at times.
I've considered a dedicated MP3 player, but hesitate to clutter up my bars more than I have to, or ride with it in the windshield bag.
I am going to replace my GPS eventually with one that has MP3 capability and also an FM transmitter so no wire in the Aux port is required.

You have to rip the tunes (from the cd) as MP3's and burn them (to the new disc) as MP3's. And make sure you use a "data" disc and not a "music disc. You should be able to program about 135 tunes per disc that will play on the HK.

hth,
Dave
I have the same thing happen to me. I've done several MP3 disks for my bike. Most fit around 120 songs on them. There is always a few that the radio just skips over. All my music is in MP3 format at around 128k sampling rate. I think the HK radio just pukes on any song that has even the slightest hint of a glitch on it.
The other odd thing I get is that after I insert a new data disk, whenever I turn off the bike and restart it, the player always reverts back to playing the first song. After it's been in the player for several days it goes back to picking up at the song it left off with when I shut the bike down. Go figure.
Another tip that I don't often see mentioned here: I gather a list of the MP3 songs that I want to burn to a particular disk and copy them to a separate folder. I then boost and equalize the volume on all the tracks using a free program called MP3Gain. Otherwise there are some tracks that I can barely hear and others that are much louder. Makes for a much more enjoyable disc to listen to.

Jumping in sideways on the "speed" thing --
I'm an audio mastering engineer by trade (so the quality of the burn is at the very top of the list) and I've been involved in several studies of media vs. drive vs. speed.
Long story short (as it's a really long and boring story) --
20-30% of a drives rated speed with good quality media -- almost any Japanese disc - Taiyo Yuden (now branded as JVC) being at the top, Maxell, Sony, Mitsui, Verbatim, TDK and the like. Avoid the "cheapies" like Ritek, Ritadata, off-brand or "generic" discs as if they were going to give you a high block-error rate at any speed (because they probably will).
48-52x drive? Write at 12, maybe 16x. Those results (write speed vs. rated speed) were almost universal among dozens of drives and dozens of brands. Writing very slow (most drives only go down to 4x now) typically yielded higher BLER than at the highest speeds (although C2 counts were worse at higher speeds than at lower - but that data really wasn't conclusive).

Thanks, I burn them at 8-16X speed.
All MP# and of course burned as Data
Looks like it might have been just a crappy disc or a hiccup..
went for a 400 mile ride Yesterday (Sunday) to ops check a new "full" disc and it worked flawlessly..
Thats one way to check it out I guess...
Thx
