I've been on many trips, some with friends and some alone. The Wife doesn't ride and I wonder how many tour alone. Some trips have been 3000 miles or so. Kinda nice, I stop when I want to and ride when I want to. I'm retired and most of my bike riding friends have to do the work thing. So what do you guys think?
I always toured alone before I got married,I think most people wouldn't want to ride as hard as i do.I enjoyed the freedom of it,and I used to ride 24 hrs when I went anywhere,at most kicking back on the bike for a few minutes when i got sleepy.Usually, the more people in a group, the more often you have to stop.
I have been on weekend trips with a group of good friends, but when I tour, I tour alone. It gives me the peace to do as I please and go where I want to go without having to patiently address the needs of the other riders on the group, but that is just me.

I agree the more people the longer it atkes to reach your destination...I usually just meet everybody there, takes half as long going alone

i am doing 26 days solo in June. NY to Cali and back. running 66 westbound, PCH, vegas, mountains and other stuff. plans may change, and often do. somewhere in the 7-10,000 mile range.
I go between California and Tennessee for my vacation. I try to go every year. I go alone so I can make the ride how I want. When I was married, I had to stop at every Road Side stop and Ball of Yarn display.
The only time I had a good hard ride with someone else was when I made a cross country trip with my best friend. We had matching 1985 Electra Glides we had just bought. We wanted to go and have fun, so we set out on a two week ride. It was great fun without any where special to go, or be. Just the ride to break in the new Harleys.
I have done both. If my destination is what is important I would rather just head out on my own, but if the trip and all the fun things along the way is what I am after I have more fun with a friend or two. I really do not like to ride in the big group rides like HOG rides.
I tour alone quite frequently. I prefer it. No one to wait for, I stay where I want, do what I want, go where I want. If I want to sleep in one day, or stay somewhere an extra night, I can. Not to mention it's peaceful on the road when I'm alone with my thoughts.
All the little voices don't bother me as much as they normally do. :-)
