I ran Metzlers on my Road Glide and loved them.
The problem was they just don't last on the touring bikes.
I typicaly got 6 to 8k miles out of a rear tire.

I've still got the factory Dulops on my Electra Glide.
Ya, they hold up longer but they are hard as rocks and no were near as sticky as the Metz were.

I've read great things on Michellins (sp). I'm sure a serch will pull up the modle.

Good Luck

i did read somewhere that they're making the dunlop elite 3's for the newer sizes, i don't know if any stores or outlets have them yet though. they're a great tire for wear and grip, as well as ride, that's been my observation as many others have expressed the same opinion of the elite 3's.

Methinks you've been exercising the virtues of that 124" motor!

6500 miles on that bike is pretty good...Anyway...Dunlop is coming out with a American Elite but it will only be available later in the year....
