Default 2007 or 2008?

I have said a few times we are looking at late model 07 - 08 HD's to upgrade my wife from her 1100 cc metric.

Today we rode to Phoenix and pretty much set a deal on an 07 RKC. Thing is a complete garage queen with lots of extra chrome, no engine mods, brawler seat, heritage type bars and a whopping 1387 miles.

Next to it though is a RK Standard with no engine mods, but a backrest and rack. Very clean (both) but the 08 has 11K miles and is $500.00 more then the 07.

I love my 08, it's 6 gal tank and Brembo brakes but other then those items I find it hard to pass up on the 07 which is virtually new. They both of course have the 96TC, 6 speed tranny and the RKC has cruise (not sure about the standard now that I think about it). Bag and wheel type are neither a deal maker or breaker.....we like both.

What would you chose? Low mileage 08 or practically new 07 for $500 less?

What I liked the best! I mean, are you looking for a bargain, or something you really like??

On a recent thread similar to this, a very well respected member & harley mechanic () said something to the effect that the 08 would be his last choice on 06, 07, 08, 09 choices. I'm happy w/my 07 & won't be changing anytime soon!

Appreciate the feedback....

mike5511: Bargain? Heck yes, aren't we all when shopping especially big ticket items? I am looking for mechanical or owner type feedback. Fortunately for me I am only mildly emotionally invested since it's the wifes scoot.

07FLHT: I just put 490 miles on my 08 RKC yesterday although in total I only have 9K of my own saddle time on it I love that bike like you do your 07. Do you recall why the well respected mech/member shyed away from the 08 year?

Thanks guys.....

I think the 08 will have fbw where the 07 has a throttle cable. You would be happy with either one I think so pick the one you like the looks of better. See if they will allow a test ride on both.

I am guessing the Brembo brakes are not that big a deal on the 08 vs. 07. I wish 07 had the bigger tank........wife's current bike (VStar 1100 Classic) is running low when my 08 has 1/3 tank left. For short scoot days no biggy but a day like yesterday it was an extra stop we could have avoided if she had the 6.0 gallon.

Is the 2007 5th gear "whine" anything real? So many hot-topics turn out to be new model panic that a few experience a problem but everyone jumps on.

I'd go with the '08.

No doubt I would go with the '08. I love the 6 gal tank, Brembo brakes, the inexpensive cruise control option, the standard IDS, etc. And, yes, there is a big difference between the older brakes and the Brembo.

To the guy who said his mechanic said he would not buy an '08, I wonder why. When the '07s were current, all we heard was how bad they were. I have heard nothing bad about the '08. I have 23,000 miles on my '08 ECG and couldn't be more pleased.

I have done all upgrades (cams on the bench waiting for me to find time) and love it also. This 07 RKC we are looking at has cruise which I assume is controlled at the ECM just like our 08's?

I like you wonder what one of the resident HDF mech's said bad about the 08's. Especially to single it out from 06 to 09 which encompassed so many changes.
