I've got a 05 Road Glide just liked the style and the ride sold me the rest of the way. I like to carve curves every once and a while (I'm not that old yet
) I'm going install lowers later in the fall, no real buffeting to talk about, depends on your helmet it seems to me, I've got three and one is terrible and the other two are fine. I'm 6'2" and did install a clearview shield, 2" taller and 2.5" closer to me I can say I like it better than the stocker but it wasn't bad either. Not the one in my picture need to update that
Ridem and chose the one that appeals the most to you, Harley has the largest aftermarket support bar none! If you need something for your bike someone somewhere has made it and sells it

You cannot go wrong with any of the glides in my view, but they do have some different riding characteristics. You should consider renting a couple to try out first.
I ended up choosing the Electra Glide Classic, mainly because I wanted the radio/cd player and the other gauges, but did not want the lower front faring, the rear speakers or the CB/intercom. I made the tour pak detachable and have a detachable backrest I ride with most of the time.
The radio sounds very good, and has audio voice control, so it gets louder when the ambience noise increases as the bike accelerates. I have no issue hearing the radio (or my 7 hours of music on my MP3 CD).
You can definitely stand on the cruiser boards to stretch, but I added a nice set of offset cruiser pegs on the engine guard to give me another foot position to use.
The Road Glide is a cool looking bike, and I would agree it should handle a little better in the twisties, if that's your thing. I could not get use to the sport bike style faring--just personal taste.

I've been riding the EG Standard for about three months now and I love it. I added the stereo myself after 3 weeks and can hear it very well. At 70 - 80 MPH I can still hear without cranking way up on volume. The ride is great. The handling is great. I haven't experienced any buffeting with the fairing. And putting my signature on it with the add on's was a plus. Good luck in your search and have fun.

Many thanks for your response. I had wondered why HD made so many touring models, now I understand why; there are so many different opinions as to what constitutes the "idea tourer" Each model has it's loyal supporters.
I lean toward the Road Glide because of the clean flowing lines, but all in the group have things that appeal to me.

I use to stand up on the passenger footpegs or rest my legs on them every now and then (riding alone).
But I could not get rid of the buffeting on my SG with any windshield so I think it was my big back and that I was to big for this bike, now I am riding a road king and are happy, the road glide would be a nice thing to test but I think that the road king with the removable windshield is a really all weather bike (I don´t have the windshield but have tested one and no buffeting).
