After reading some new threads about the new SEPST, I have a question. Does this new device replace the stock ECM, or is it a device like the older SERT (which I have) that changes the paramaters of the ECM? I have a SERT, in which my local tuners can't seem to get things the way I'd like...i.e., things running a bit to lean and HOT, particularly in the rear cylinder. I hear that Thundermax is getting close to a new version of their ECM for 08 and newer touring rides, and that is something I'm considering.
The SEPST uses all stock hardware including ECM, O2 sensors, TMAP, VSS, TPS, CKP, And a few other sensors used by the ESPFI to make the engine run according to a preset Air fuel ratio table and many secondary tables. The SEPST changes these tables by erasing the old ones stored inside the ECU and downloading new ones, to fine tune the engine so that it can run at its maximum capacity it comes with the smart tune feature that turns you bike into a dyno you record the computer analyse the data and comes up with the best possible setting based on the way you ride. I also had a problem with a previous tuner and I just could not get it right. I sold that one and got the Super tuner and this thing has it perfect, no overheating max temps so far with oil are 204 degrees F and 247 head temps, and there is no hesitation or drive-ability problems associated with too lean or too rich AFR. I would recommend this program to anyone and I am a huge skeptic when it comes to tuners and dynos so that is sayin alot.
The problem with running a SERT on an 08 is there are only 200 cals for the FBW, which sucked, the SEST has the 205 cals for the FBW and can be tuned much better. Bring it on up to Boise we'll tune it out to make you happy with the SEST!
Just check and see if it can be upgraded to the TTS for $100. http://www.mastertune.net/SERTUpgrade.html. Then you would have the most capable tuning device you can get. Both the SESPT and TTS have a couple of extra tables to use, but if your tuner can't get your bike right with the SERT, it may not be the tuning device.
Mine's been stock since I bought it in 08. It runs great, start the first time everytime, no decel popping and the plugs are always clean. the only thing I changed was the exhaust. Why mess with someting that's working good? I think my bike must have been built on a Wednesday when the MOCO people were into building good ones as opposed to Friday or Monday
