While not the most beautiful thing I've ever seen bolted to a bike, there is a quite practical side to this and this could make a difference between your favorite lady friend enjoy a ride or complain about being uncomfortable at the first stop for fuel.
I'd use it to make that difference, but certainly remove it after the two up ride...

I bought my tourpak secondhand and painted it the colour I wanted a couple of years later when I could afford to (paint cost more than the tourpak!). The cost of love handles is a lot to spend when it is not what you want! A cheap backrest would be a better compromise, or look out for a secondhand tourpak.
