Has anyone put a 08 or older Tour Pack on a 09? I know the mounting hardwear will be different but Harley lists the Tour Packs as different too, we are going to Sturgis this year and a Tour Pack for the Street glide would be nice. I have been watching a few on Ebay but now I am wondering if they will fit.
yes, new holes will have to be drilled to accommodate the wider 09 frame -- I had my holes drilled at the dealer they charged me $40 but I did not want to take a chance of messing it up --

Somewhere I saw an adapter plate that will allow an older tour-pak to mounted on a later model scooter without drilling additional holes. It does seem like it would be difficult to make such a setup.

Lkr0,
What year was your tour pack off of? I fould a 06 local and I want to pull the trigger on this if I can make it work.
Just a suggestion, buy the mount from your Local Dealer. Go to where your local tour pack is. Compare the Mounting holes and see if it's worth it to redrill. If it doesn't work out return the mount to your dealer. Your not out any cash that way.
As lkro mentioned, you will need to drill 4 holes in the bottom of a pre-'09 tour pak to mount to the '09 and newer style rack. It's very easy to do using the rack as a template for the holes.
An '09 or newer tour pak will have two sets of mounting holes to provide fore and aft adjustment. Take a tape measure or rule to a local HD store and measure from the front of the bottom of the tour pak to the first set of holes on an EG Classic, for example, and transfer that measurement to your "new" tour pak to locate the rack prior to drilling. You can also use the measurement between the two sets of holes on the OEM tour pak you measured to drill a second set of mounting holes if you like.
I did this a year ago when I mounted an '08 Ultra tour pak on a Milwaukee Bagger two-up detachable rack that didn't have holes that matched the tour pak's hole locations. You'll be doing the same thing albeit using a different rack with different hole locations.
An '05 or older tour pak is molded differently on the bottom, but can be used also. The '06 or newer bottom is the same as the '09 or newer except for the hole locations.
I put an older model on my 09. Like mentioned , the bottom molded part is different and did not let it sit flat on the rack. I just used some 1/2 nuts as spacers to get the molded part up off of the rack and bolted it on. I'll make some spacers out of 1/2 " square tubing and redo it later so it has a better footing than just the nuts.
An '06 bottom will be the same. The primary difference in the bottom between the '06-'08 bottom and the '09 and newer bottom is the provision for the U-tube that is used to mount the older tour paks that is molded in the bottom of the '06 style bottom. The '09 and newer mounting doesn't use the tube; it mounts flat on the rack, so no provision for the tube. As the pics in the thread show, you'll be able to flat mount the '06 tp on your '09 or newer rack without a problem.
An '05 or older bottom will be much different. The '05 and older tour pak bottom will have a much different bottom mold.
Reese doesn't say what year tour pak he used so I can't say why he needed nuts or anything else to mount the older tour pak. I strongly suspect he used an '05 or older tour pak.
If you want to see what the '05 bottom looks like, find a picture of a chopped tour pak bottom. It has the same, old style mold.
