I can attest to it's workings on two occasions, both 2-up. Came around a blind corner out in the country, on a slight downhill, and was confronted by a set of R/R tracks with nothing but a sign only feet from the tracks; Jumped on the binders and the ABS brought us to a quick and un-eventful stop. Next to no skidding, BTW.
The other was a dipshit who decided not to see us in an intersection; again superb stopping and almost no traction loss. I'm impressed by the sysytem, and so is my wife, for that matter. Personally, my 08 RKC is a fabulous machine, which is why I put all the effort into keeping it and making it the ultimate touring machine.
I bought a 2010 FLTRX with ABS because I wanted it. I'm finding that it kicks in way too often when splitting lanes and needing to stop while going over Bots Dots. Feels like the bike is lurching forward, rather than stopping, as expected. Kinda scary sometimes!
Larger bumps while stopping will make the system kick in; but it doesn't happen all that often.

On my 08 it is very disconcerting and I had the download uploaded(that sounds really dumb) and it helped some but not to the point that I feel comfortable with it. I don't have the same experience with it that those that are saying they like their ABS, so far I would rather not have it but for re-sale I am glad I do.
I'm just wondering when one of the anti-ABS forums members will jump in and try to refute the report above!
No need to.
I never claimed that ABS didnt save lives. I have ABS on my cars and love it, and I have ridden a K1000S BMW with ABS and thought it was stunning.
I claimed, tested, and proved (and have yet to be disproved) that HD ABS is significantly flawed and greatly increases stopping distance in a panic stop on a flat road. This is dangerous in anyones books (speed limits exist because the faster you go the longer it takes to stop).
I have also experienced near total loss of brakes when braking moderately on washboard surfaces. This is unnaceptable.
Since this study excludes all HDs except for 1 fatality involving a 2008 Vrod (as the other HDs dont have a VIN identifier) this study isnt relevant and I have no issue with the studys findings, in fact they make perfect sense.
I think every vehicle should have ABS, and I think HD should get their ABS to be comparable with ABS from other manafacturers. Until they do mine remains unplugged.

I'm guessing they sent the faulty ABS systems down under
I have had 3 techs look at it and they all said it was "normal".
In fact the last one told me "Harley ABS isnt that good. Its really for people who dont know how to ride. Old codgers and stuff. Its nowhere near BMW or Ducati Standard, dont expect it to be."
Word for word thats what he said. While wearing a HD service tech shirt. Behind a dealership service desk!! I couldnt beleive it!!
