Vibrating Standard
Ok, I have a 2005 FLT Standard that I bought new, rode the thing for 30k before it started to act up. Now the thing vibrates so bad I cant see out the mirrors going down the road! Kinda sucks. Ive had it at 3 different dealers. All have replaced the motor mounts, and aligned it. I just got done having the engine remaned by Harley, thier service boys said the flywheels had to shift? Im all for a new engine, but it didnt cure the problem!!!! Anybody have any ideas or the same thing happen to them?
Did anyone check the neck bearing? if mounts ahve been replaced, motor has been replaced, everything has been aligned, it has to be something else right? Does it only vibrate at highway speeds?
I ride an 03 EGC and I agree with checking the fairing mounts as stated above.....if they're broken, it probably was a result of your vibration. I went through several motor mounts before I found the right one. I replaced the front mount with recommended factory OEM (79B) mount....no good! Then it was recommened I try the later model OEM mount (79D)....no good! So, I got on line and looked around in several forums. The talk was the Velva-ride mount. Well, I gave it a try and still wasn't happy....it was better but, not good. Finally, while reading through this forum, someone mentioned Glide-pro. I went to the website and there were a couple of how to videos and some good info. I e-mailed the owner Jake and he replied with some great info....so,I bought one, installed it and have been happy ever since. Just my 2 cents worth....hope it helps.

Has anyone checked the injectors? Friend has an 06 FLHTC and it was rough, especially at cruising rpm. He hated driving on long rides as it wore him out. He tried various front motor mounts, alignments, various PCIII maps, etc. to no avail. Thought that maybe his crank had slipped and was about ready to give up. Put new injectors in it and it ran like it was supposed to.

I had a kind of knocking I only felt through my right side foot board on rough roads. Drove me nuts. I checked for anything loose like footboard mounts, pipes, you name it. Then I dug a little deeper and went for the front motor mount. I checked the plate at the motor and at the frame and they were tight. Then, thinking the rubber motor mount (the one bolt rubber sandwich) was toast, found it to be kinda loose, and tightened it up a bit. Man that thing vibrated so bad at all RPMs (sitting or rolling) that I thought it would shake my hands off the grips. Tightening it up did though, stop the knocking. I tried the 15-20 ft/lbs the manual called for but that was way too tight. Overtightening meant the motor couldn't move at all. I figured that the rubber was wore out but what I did was sawed off about 1/4" of the sleeve that sits in the sandwich that the bolt goes through, and then starting at very loose, gradually tightening the bolt till the vibration started back again. It only does some vibrating when revving between 1,100 and 1,300 RPMs. It's very smooth above and below that. I'm thinking a new motor mount torqued properly will do the trick. I only have 16K on it but it has been oil soaked a few times.
I bet the fairing brackets, at least one or both are busted if that fairing's shaking that bad, If the bike's shaking that bad, hell, that'll break those brackets alone. Might not be the root of your problem though. But if it's just that the fairing's shaking, it might be it.
