I changed out a broken latch spring tonight. The latch has a lot more tension and really snaps closed now. It was pretty weak before. The new spring is beefier but I didn't think it would make any difference with the actual latching. I'm wondering if it's the spring or maybe I bent something in process. Anyone changed out the spring and noticed more tension and better snapping shut? If so, I'm going to change out the other one. The spring isn't broke but it closes real weak.
Actually not as tight as it was before. Plus when they installed the lock latch they put in upside down. Not a big deal at the moment but I will take care of it myself. As to snapping closed sometimes it feels like the retention strap is getting snagged under the cover. It is tight when closed though.
Since I put the new spring in it has a lot of tension, almost like it's binding, then snaps closed smartly. I want the other one to close like that too. It almost falls clossed when latching. Guess I'll just have to get a new spring and try it.
I did change out the other latch spring last week. It did make a big difference too. Both latches have a lot of tension now. If your latches are weak new springs will do the trick.
These springs from HD? I also have a new problem with my '10 SG. My RH latch won't stay closed now, I push the handle down, it does NOT click, and pops right back out,,,,,, I have to lock it to keep it shut.
