Default Need opinions on '07 Ultra Classic

Just returned from the Stealer. Priced an '07 UC in Black Cherry/Pewter. Is it worth 10K to trade my '96 UC with 26K miles? No serious issues with current ride, except the CB transmitter dirfts off-freq when the weather is hot. I see several posts on problems with the H/K radio and a few problems with the tranny. Am I swapping one minor bug for several?

I don't have much input because I don't have a lot of experience with Harley Ultra Classic yet. I've only had my '03 for a couple of months but if I had an opportunity to get my hands on an '07 UC with the 96 engine with the 6 speed trany I would jump on it if I could afford it.

I love mine. The 6 speed makes it worth the money, IMO. 2400 rpm at 70 mph, engine just lopes along. <3000 rpm at 80. Tranny is a bit noisy, mostly in 5th gear, but I'm getting used to it and really don't even think about it now. Stock pipes sound better now, but they're still pretty quiet. Not many aftermarket goodies out there so far, but you can bet there will be plenty. I don't know if it's worth it to everyone, but it sure as heck was worth it to me. I LOVE MY BIKE.

Price wise, Yes. I'm a dealer, so I know what the used market bears. They are offering you a good buy. As far as trading "issues", that one is hard to say. Good luck with what you decide to do.

I would probably trade, but thats just me. Howeve, you could always do a BB 95 and tranny, for way less than the difference, and have a much better performing bike. Also you would not lose any of your current upgrades on your 96. I considered it, the dealer offered me $14,000 for my 05 UC:

1. What a joke, in my opinion
2. So much for excellent resale on the coveted HD
3. And dont let the Honda guys see this

It has a couple of thousand in upgrades(stage 1, Vance and Hines, Backrest, luggage rack, some chrome stuff, etc). SO for me a $3000 BB 95 with heads and cam, and $2000 for a 6 speed, which I really do not need (just want), is a better solution money wise. And when do you stop? Most of what I have read is the 96 is about equal to a stock 88. So more money just to get into the new 07, performance isnt that great, so upgrade to a 103....it never ends. If you NEED the power, and lot of highway miles and long trips to warrent a 6, go for it. But for me, I'm talking to a local wrench (Sinister Cycle in Las Vegas) on the BB 96, heads and cams for my 05. The tranny, sure I want a 6 speed, just like everybody else.

Bottom line: They make it, so I must need it, else they would not make it!!!!

I don't know, I think 14k trade in on an '05 proves that resale on an HD is great. They are offering 14k as wholesale, they will then turn around and sell that bike for 18k retail, which is just 3k lower than a brand new one. Hmm, think a two year old Honda will fetch the same price as it was new.

Yeah, I know the upgrades aren't accounted for, they never are.

I have an 07 Ultra and I like the ride an style of the bike alot. I'm starting to have real issues with the vibration and gear noise though. My bike only has 348 miles on it so far. I went on a ride with my wife yesterday and the longer we rode the louder 5th gear got. It is really annoying me. I switched to a 3/4 helmet after about 75 miles and it worked for awhile but when the noise got louder it was annoying again. I am going to ride it till the 1000 mile check and switch to synthetic lubes and see what happens. If that does not help. There will be a low mileage 07 Ultra up for sale. I would suggest you try before you decide.

The dealer said I could get $13,000.00 for my '03 Ultra Classic on a trade for an '07 Ultra Classic.
