I have them on my 05 FLHTC. 7 yr old sons uses them, wife doesn't. Maybe if I drag the floorboards, she will grab them. That or dig her nails in to me like was previously stated.
My wife loves the security of the grab rails as well as the longer arm rests on the Mustang backrest. She only uses the rails when we're in the curves.
grab rails are designed for one purpose and that is keeping passengers centered on the bike so that the driver can do the leaning and the passenger stays centered with the motorcycle and the driver is totally in control of passenger and bike.you sir are choosing to freak your wife out exspecially if you are dragging floor boards I predict that it wont be long and she will just quit riding with you hand rails or not!!!!!
Hmmm. I bit rough in the tone, pal. Lay off the caffeine.
I rarely ever scrape a floorboard and she is generally ok with that anyhow. For whatever reason, it is the mountains being in the equasion that seem to raise her blood pressure. I guess it is because she is used to living in Texas where we can see all the way around most every corner. In the mountains you don't have that luxury.
My wife likes to have them there---just in case. If it puts her more at ease it's worth it at any price. I also put black and chrome accents on the rails to dress them up a bit.
When I am solo riding the grab rails come in handy to bungy down my camping gear.
