Default Modular Helmet Thread

I'm in the market for a good modular helmet with the sun visor lens. I am leaning towards the N103 N-Com Modular . What is the rave in Modular today? http://www.nolanhelmets.com/n103ncom.htm

Shark Evoline. Hands down.

Modular piece folds all the way to the back of the helmet, so if you want to ride with a 3/4 style you can.

I looked into modular helmets, but steered away b/c most I tried were way too bulky & heavy. If you're set on this type/style - highly recommend you go into a m/c store & test fit a few...Cheers!

You gotta try a helmet on. Period. Some of us such as myself were blessed with an egg shaped head and ordering online is not necessarily a bad thing if you know what you are gonna get will fit your head. Myself, my oldest non DOT beanie is the most comfortable helmet I have and anything bigger really drags in the wind, especially when I do not have my windshield on. I would like a full face for winter but rarely on extended trips or going very fast then anyway.

I tried the nolan n43 trilogy, medium was too big, but the chinbar was close to my chin, small was way too small, I have a shark evoline on its way from helmet harbor, they were great to deal with, hopefully it fits, they recommended a small. Probably going with an Edsets comm. system.

I agree 100% if you go to a local dealer make sure they have the helmet that you want try them on and then go get the best price you can, more than likely you will pay more in a store. Go to a Honda dealer and they have a lot of the different brands that you can try on. But like Strtarrow said make sure you try them on first before you by online. Ride safe.

As everyone stated, really, go try on helmets first and then order online (cheaper). Helmets are subjective to the person wearing one. Head shape, weight, materials, latching mechanism, costs, etc are factors involved. What is right, nice, comfortable for one person, may not be for you.

For the cost, fit and construction, a HJC SYMAX II was my choice. However, there are trade-offs with costs. IF cost is of no importance, I would get the lightest modular with metal latching, chin curtain, adjustable liners(check pads, etc), sun visor, and integrated speakers/mic to plug straight into my Ultra's system.

My HJC does not have a chin curtain, kind of heavy and does not have an integrated speakers/mic setup in the helmet...but, it cost me $165 and fits my head perfect.

I went one better. I went to the local non-HD dealer after getting a recommendation online for my egg-head. They had the HJC (not quite the Arai oval head, but not the Arai price either) on the wall for me to try on and verify size and fit. I was upfront with the sales person, she was great and took me over and gave me her insights as well. Once I knew the size and it felt right, she told me to bring her the Internet price that I find and she would badger her distributor. If they could not get down there, she would inform them that they lost a sale as well. I got the helmet from her at the Internet price, the distributor did not believe the price until she showed them the printout I brought in. I ended up buying two helmets (the wife had to have a pink one) and extras, like cheekpads and such, all at the same price or better than I found online. I did have to pay tax instead of enjoying free shipping, but I was happy to spend the money with the local business. I have been back in there a few times and she has told me that they have been getting better overall prices from that distributor since my purchase. So some good things can come out of visiting local.

Honestly, don't tell her, but I would have gone up a bit more too just to spend the money local. Hard for me to try on their helmets and then just walk out and give someone else that business, but I sure was not going to pay retail either. The funniest thing, to me, the helmet I bought was the exact same as one at the HD dealer, with the HD badging, but they would not come down off of retail. Only difference is that my helmet says HJC instead of HD, but I am not going to pay 2x the cost for a different logo.
