Default What Screamin' Eagle Slip-On To Get?

I have a 2009 RKC, completely stock mechanically. I want to get some slip-on mufflers that will make it a little louder. I will retain the stock air cleaner and tuning. As for sound, I don't want something that's REAL loud, just a nice deep rumble.

And because I absolutely HATE ordering stuff without first being able to see it in-person and hold it, I think I'm limited to buying stuff from what the local HD dealers have in stock...namely Screamin' Eagle stuff.

So my questions are, which ones should I get? I see that there are a few on HD's website. Fatshotz, Street Performance, Thunder Street Performance, Touring, etc.

And, are the SE mufflers in-fact louder than stock?

If you are relying on the opinion of forum members to suggest your HD slip-ons, why not trust these same members to suggest mufflers outside the HD family?

I have come to value the numerous helpful, insightful advice offered on this forum. And I have come to realize there are so many options that have fit my needs better than what HD can offer.

My advice? attend some rides, events, or gatherings where there is a large group of bikes. Then check out the sounds of the diverse exhausts, mufflers, and pipes. Then make a decision that works best for your situation.

Good luck!

I've had the newer 4" street legal SE mufflers.

If your looking for rumble, save your money, you wont be happy. They sound less "tinny" and "sqeaky" than the stock mufflers, are about 5-10 percent louder (at best) but they are not deep and rumbly, IMHO. They just sound a little less....well..... crappy... than the stockers. Don't get me wrong, I would take them in a heartbeat over stock mufflers, and if required by law at some point, sure, but if you want rumble, they ain't it.

If you want deep rumble, and I mean DEEP rumble, with about a 15-25 percent increase in volume, look at V&H Monster ovals or Monster Rounds.

+1 on this assessment. I had the SE street Performance slip-ons for a while. They were 'acceptable' as a stock replacement if you want marginal increases in volume and a deepened tone. They have their place - if in fact that is what you are after.

My current setup is with Jackpots from FuelMoto. Much more in the neighborhood of what I was looking for. You should check them out as they are a great price/performer.

I'll box the Screamin Eagles up and keep them if ever I want to go back to something a bit beefier than stock.

I installed a set of '09 Street Glide Screamin' Eagle mufflers on my '09 Ultra Classic for the same reason. I was a little disappointed that they didn't sound a little better. They definitely sound better than stock but I really like the sound of a pair of V&H Monster Ovals. I just don't like the looks of them.

Have you looked at the monster rounds?

Excellent post! I think I just found a good Wisconsin winter therapy video for when I'm up to my eyeballs in snow and in serious bike withdrawal. I currently have the SE slash downs on my 09 EGC along with the Stage 1 download and the SE air cleaner with a K&N filter. I'm happy with the set-up for now. I ride through the Stillwater, MN area on my way to visit the kids, and it's nice to have the EPA stamped muffs on the bike; no worries about tickets. One thing I have noticed about my SE muffs is that they have gotten a little louder and their tone has lowered after about 5,000 miles. Just my 2 cents.

Point taken, but most local shops only stock the SE stuff. One of my requirements is that I can see/feel/hold before I buy, and that I can then hand them my money and they hand me the pipe right then and there.

I have the SE touring pipes and have been more than happy with the sound although I also have rush true duals and a high flow air kit. I to wanted just a little deeper sound which I got that mellows out at maintained speeds which they do. On long all day trips I am not looking for something that makes my ears ring just a good deep tone that is not obnoxious and they fit the bill just fine.

Volume / loudness is subjective... I suggest you go to your local dealership on a Saturday and listen to everyone coming / going, and ask what pipes they have...

This is your best bet to find the slipon that best suits you and your tastes. Nothing beats hearing them in person...

FWIW, I have the Rush Slip-ons with 2in baffles, and I like the rumble / sound / volume... I also don't like really loud pipes. I heard the SE Street slipons in person, and they were not loud enough for me.
