I slide the jack in from the none kickstand side, and then pull on the grip and stand the bike upright and slide it in the rest of the way. I have never had problem doing this numerous times.

For me, I stand on the right side of the bike, squeeze the front brake lever to keep it from moving (you can wrap a strap around brake lever and grip to hold it), pull on the right grip to level the bike, slide the jack under the bike with my left hand, let the bike down onto the jack and start lifting..no issues.

if it absolutely doesn't fit, and you don't want to enlist the aid of lumber, then instead of 'wasting a hundred bucks', take it back.

+1 also stand bike straight up and put your jack where the bike will balance on the jack with the bags and tour pac you may want to set jack toward the rear of the bike .good luck and use straps if you go to limit on the jack.

+1 with what J. Dawson said....
Don't understand why ANYONE would want to have lumber around to lift what a jack itself is supposed to do...

Yep! What he says!!!
Just roll it under and jack it up... no holding, no balancing.
Going down is even easier...make sure the side stand is down and lower the jack...bike settles on the stand.
So simple, a caveman can do it!!!

Look on youtube, maybe Hog-Doc's friend, you know the one that dropped the primary cover while showing how to adjust your clutch? Maybe he does one on the proper way to lift your Harley.
