Help front end clunk
I just had mine serviced for the last time while under warranty for a clunk in the steering head. According to the tech that worked on it. He found that the bearing inner race was just a bit too big for the shaft and allowed too much slop. It was also the cause for not being able to get the bearing preload adjusted for the right amount of fall away. All I have is what he told me to go with. But there must have been something to it because the clunk is gone now and for the first time, the bike will track straight when I let go of the bars. The latter was an unexpected bonus. I had given up on the idea of this bike ever tracking straight, even after rear wheel alignment adjustments to help counter it. Sort of makes me wonder how many others with 08 touring bikes who say similar things might have the same problem?
When I had the front lowered one inch and new oil put in I had a "clunk" every now and then when I hit a bump in the road. After a while it stopped doing it. I assumed it was the new oil but never could confirm it. Like I said it just quit on it's own.
