Bagger76, as previously stated, intend to re-visit the issue tomorrow with the builder due to the feedback from the forum members (thanks again guys). We should be starting the build sometime next week so I still have time to override his suggestion if I so choose.
Oh, by the way, I just checked the part no. for the pistons in the SE catalog and they are in fact 10.5:1 compression pistons with the OEM heads, and not the 10:1 that I originally posted.
I also plan to get his opinion on the heavier clutch spring while I am at it.
i've got the same kit as smokin dave, and while the motor was apart i had the manual compression releases installed along with the se compensator. when the summer air gets hot and wet, you'll be glad you gave your starter a chance to live. with the same kit, and v&h 2 into 1 pro pipe, 99 hp and 104 tq, but what's interesting is that it's got 90 ft lbs at 1700 rpm's and dips very slightly at 1800 rpm's and is very linear. the screamin eagle kits work quite well, from my experiences. sure higher peaks could have been gotten with another kit, but this puts the power in the usable rev range. oh, pantomine, i picked up i think 30+ hp and about 35 ft lbs of torque. she's a ripper now.
Just got the pistons in for my kit. This is the build sheet.
Bore cylinders to 103
KB cast 10:1 pistons
Street pro ported heads
HQ Black ops lifters and pushrods
S&S 570 Easy Start cams
Already have Ness BS AC
V&H duals
SERT
Also . . .
SE compensator
SE clutch spring
Andrews 30T sprocket.
The results of all this should be a great 2up touring bike with plenty of low end torque. Should be easy to start and reliable.
What do the rest of you think? Thanks for any input. Good or bad.
Mine went in last Fri, & it'll be getting done this week. I don't remember everything he's puting in it. He's boreing out my stock jugs, using HD flat top pistons, head work, Andrews 37 chain drive cams, thunderheader 2 into 1, gonna be 9.8 compression. Getting it done at Trask Performance in phoenix, az.
I just Friday night did a similar build on my 2009 RG, road is last night for the first time briefly, but tucked away today, because it is raining like cats and dogs in Ohio. But what I'd say is definitely have the compression releases in. Mine had them built in on the 09's. Also, I went with the CNC heads instead of SE and SE 260 cams. Also had the 10.5-1 SE polished pistons. I haven't dyno'd yet or had a chance to post the build pics I took but WOW, what a difference! Enjoy your new bike, you will love it.
I'm probably going to look into putting in a bigger throttle body also.
