Default JAGG Oil Cooler

I had a Jagg Horizontal oil cooler put on 3K miles ago. Worked great until I was returning from Sturgis and went through some road construction on Highway 14. Got mud on the cooler and within 500 miles it started leaking oil.

I don't know if they have a crappy product or it's just prone to failure based upon the location.

I'm thinking the location is the problem. Afterall if the tire is throwing stuff past the fender that cannot be good.

JAGG has a vertical mount but I'm not sure it will fit with my Ultra's lower fairings. Anybody got one on theirs or can offer some advice?

Bob

Mustve been rock damage, had one mounted as yours for yrs and never any problems.Freak thing? My bike also ran lwrs.Mud flap may help if you believe it came off frt tire.Ha rley makes the newer type cooler that can have a chrome bar and shield cover installed.Probably defeats cooling effect.Kinda limited to stock location or frame rails

I have used Jagg coolers for years as well. The only problem I have ever experienced was that one of the mountung tabs came loose from the body of the cooler. I think they are epoxyed on, rather than welded. It happened twice and they sent me new coolers ~ twice..... no questions asked and sent the new one before I sent the bad one(s) back.

I suggest you give them a shout....

I did and they sent me a Vertical mount at no charge. Replaced that leaking horizontal one that mounted in front of the regulator with the vertical that mounts next to my lower fairing. Problem solved.

Although JAGG said they never heard of one leaking like mine, they did admit that the vertical produced better cooling and would not get blasted from the front tire.

Thanks for the nudge!

Like I said, JAGG claims that they've never had a problem. But the Vertical (1200) is a better performer and less money (if you have to buy one).

Convert your engine guard to an oil cooler. I did this past winter, and in recent 100+ degree temps, my oil temp never registered higher than 200*...and no worries about rocks or mud causing damage.

I had a HD cooler on my 05 Classic, lasted about 2 months before a rock found it while I was on a trip.
