Anyone else experience this that has ABS? you are cruising along and you need to brake somewhat hard for a light changing or whatever, and as you are slowing down & downshifting it seems at times that the brakes release and go another few feet before the brakes "kick back in". When it happens it does that only once, but I don't like that because it seems like your brakes give out for a moment because it feels like you picked up speed.
In a car when the ABS kicks in you feel the brake pedal pulsing but you also feel the car slowing down, never surged.
In the owners manual it talks about "perceived surge while braking and says that it is normal. (page 59 of the touring manual)
My 09 did it until I loaded the new software upgrade for 09 bikes, now it works very well and I'm very happy. It was fixed on 2010s. What year is your bike?
OH yeah, that's exactly what I was getting at on a previous thread. I had the ABS update done and my bike will do it at times. I can almost make it happen at will. How? If you're aggressively downshifting during heavy brake application, chances are she'll do just that, conveniently release the brakes for you. Gee thanks for adding to my stopping distance!
If you're threshold braking, you WILL get a little slippage from the tires. Emphasis on little because it's controlled slippage and that ABS kicking in really fouls that up. Sometimes I wish they had a handlebar ABS on/off switch like BMW has. You're not alone my friend!
I've got the older Nissin system (cop-only bikes, pre -08). I didn't realize it was just my "perception" that was causing my brakes to let go momentarily. I hear the Brembo system is much better, though. I'm planning on pulling mine off the bike and going back to conventional brakes.
I was hoping that the download ( 32836-09A) would help, sounds like for some of you guys that it really didn't eliminate it. I guess they stilll have to work out some kinks with the ABS.
As DaButcher mentioned, really seems to happen with aggressive braking & downshifting, so when you need to stop the last thing you want is added stopping distance when the brakes release. So when I am just starting to brake that is the first thing that crosses my mind is, are my brakes going to release or not.
