They are not diesels, they are quite happy to run 3000-4000 all damn day long.

Keep it at 2800 and above, your bottom end bearings will love you for it.

I cruise between 2500 and 3K depending on speed limit, load, etc. Running close to 2K tends to be ugly, unless I am in a lower gear like 2nd or 3rd. This motor seems to be much happier at 2.5K and up so I keep it spinning...

I was always told to never lug a Harley - try keeping the rpm between 2300 and 2900 and it'll be happy.

Like most here, I like to keep it no less than 2300 and will cruise at 2500-3000. Won't use 6th gear until at least doing 70.

No tach, but it sounds like this BBBWWWAAAAAA. The mech that built my motor also warned against extended periods at low rpm's. He stated the oiling mechanisms for each piston work better at mid to high rpm. My bike feels better when revved up a bit, 60mph begins 5th, 75mph begins 6th. 2008 FCWC 103 Stage II, 255 cams, PRT, V&H pipes, SEHB Aircleaner.

Since I ride in the desert I just downshift until the pinging stops.

Seriously, though, 4th in the 60's, 5th in the 70's, 6th at 80+ (by my speedo which I think is about 5 mph high).
